With 5 trucks in 2 years, Nissan’s new family-planning strategy targets ‘China Speed’

Xterra related quotes --
Hidemi Sasaki, the general manager leading Nissan’s effort, outlined the strategy Aug. 21, saying the Yokohama-based carmaker must adapt to the industry’s new competitive landscape.
The first of the three product families will be frame-based trucks geared for the U.S. market and made at the Japanese carmaker’s Canton, Miss., plant. The lead nameplate, the revived Nissan Xterra, will land around 2028 and be followed by four sibling spinoffs by the end of the decade.
The body-on-frame family will consist of the Nissan Xterra, a three-row Nissan SUV spinoff and the next-generation Frontier midsize pickup, Nissan said. There will also be two- and three-row SUVs for Infiniti. In his presentation, Sasaki showed graphics of four Nissan trucks and one Infiniti.
The teaser showed an Xterra with a rugged stance, flared fenders, angled C-pillar, indented hood and semi-solid front fascia with the Nissan name spelled out in capital letters.
The frame truck family will share about 70 percent of the components forward of the B-pillar and underneath, including the platform, software, electrical system, navigation and driver-assist systems. Vehicles will get different rear top hats to differentiate them as pickups, three-row or premium vehicles. Infiniti will get upmarket interiors and different exterior styling to set it apart.
The trucks will leverage V-6 engines and a V-6 parallel hybrid system being developed in-house.
