2029 Xterra fits factory 35" inch tires & will have large aftermarket support

Nissan Americas Chairman Christian Meunier confirmed that the upcoming Xterra is being engineered to accommodate up to 35-inch tires directly from the factory, with the potential for 37-inch tires or larger through the aftermarket.

Ponz Pandikuthira, the Senior Vice President and Chief Planning Officer for Nissan North America, expanded on these details, describing the vehicle as a "canvas." He emphasized that the SUV is being designed for adaptability, allowing the aftermarket to easily implement modifications such as fender flares, lift kits, and larger wheel-and-tire packages. Meunier further noted that the company plans to collaborate proactively with aftermarket partners to enable customizations that typically aren't possible straight from the factory. He even expressed a goal to showcase the vehicle at SEMA next year to generate momentum within the enthusiast community.

Recent teasers have offered a glimpse of the new Xterra, revealing a modern yet rugged and blocky front end. Nissan has already confirmed that the SUV will utilize body-on-frame construction and will be powered by a V6 engine, with a hybrid V6 option also available. Notably, a turbocharged four-cylinder engine is not part of the plan, and four-wheel drive with a two-speed transfer case is expected.

In terms of cost, reports indicate the Xterra will be priced under $40,000 when it debuts in 2028. Meunier reaffirmed this target, stating his intention to deliver a vehicle that provides "everything you need, nothing you don’t"—a nod to the marketing slogan used for the 2002 model. This release is part of a broader turnaround strategy for Nissan aimed at streamlining its lineup while catering to the brand's loyal fanbase.

Quotes directly from Chairman Christian Meunier and Chief Planning Officer Ponz Pandikuthira:

"[Xterra] will be a canvas, right? So we will make it adaptable that very easily the aftermarket could do things like lift kits and to make bigger wheels and tires, fender flares, etc.”:
“We will work very proactively with the aftermarket so the car can be customized for stuff that we can’t typically do out of the factory. I want to bring it to SEMA next year, ideally, to start creating some buzz and interest with the aftermarket."
"will be offered with 35-inch tires from the factory, and "probably 37 or more in aftermarket."
“I’m going to bring an Xterra with everything you need, nothing you don’t, which is the slogan that was used in 2002, which we believe is right for the brand,
